Last week I asked my lady friends if they liked the smell of Old Spice deodorant
Why? Because earlier that week I caught one of my close guy friends using Old Spice.
Bro. Chicks don’t like the smell of Old Spice.
He looked at me as if I’d just slapped him and challenged him to a dual.
Bro?! Are serious? Every woman I have EVER dated LOVES the Smell of Old Spice.
Another friend was present but abstained from what was clearly going to be a very contentious conversation.
We both stood our ground
He argued that women often complimented him on the smell of his deodorant, and I stood firm in believing that NO WOMAN has ever liked Old Spice. Any woman claiming otherwise was just being polite, or has unresolved daddy issues.
I couldn’t be wrong, but a little voice in my head, coupled with the loud voice belonging to my friend said I was.
There was only one way to find out
I had to ask my lady friends if Old Spice smelled good to them. That’s it. I didn’t ask them if it turned them on, or if it reminded them of their father or grandfather, I just wanted to know if it smelled good.
The results poured in, and I was shocked
I’d never received so many comments so quickly; over 30 in the first hour. Ladies felt very strongly about Old Spice, and the results were somewhat surprising.
I was wrong. Some women really do like Old Spice, some even wear it themselves. Doesn’t matter if it’s a men’s grooming product, if you like it, you like it.
I get it, in my teens I wore Degree Shower Clean. I loved the smell of it, and I didn’t care that it was ‘formulated for women’, whatever that means. I also prefer women’s socks because they come in fun colors. I digress.
Of the 60 serious replies, 15 gave a solid yes. These ladies like the smell of Old Spice.
So good I wear it!
I wear old spice and everyone always asks me why I smell so good…..
Yes, smells great! And I don’t think my dad ever used it xD
I love it
14 gave a conditional yes, or presented another Old Spice scent that did smell good.
They argued that it often depends on how the man smells naturally. If they already smell good to them, Old Spice might make them smell better. But it’s not for everybody. Or every body.
I like the smell of old spice if I already like the smell of the person wearing it.
Old spice sport is pretty solid.
Smells good on some guys, not others.
It depends on the body chemistry of the man wearing it. I’ve been known to like the deodorant.
My all time favorite deodorant ever was old spice musk from back in the day.
14 women commented on how it reminded them of their dads, or their grandads. Some of these associations were positive or neutral, but most we’re fairly negative.
They might have liked the smell because it reminded them of dad, but they’d prefer not smelling it on a partner or a lover.
It reminds me of my dad so yes. But I would prefer if my man didn’t wear it.
Smells like my wicked ex-stepfather, I used to call it Old Mice or Moldy Spice.
Only if I felt like dating my dad. Gross.
Only if I’m dating Uncle Dad.
Smells like my dad did when I was a kid. Not what I want on my lover.
In a comforting way old spice reminds me of my Grandfather.
Did you know the plural of no is noes? I didn’t. Had to look it up.
In any case, lots of noes.
I wasn’t as wrong as I thought after all. Half of all women who replied stated not liking the smell of Old Spice Classic.
Guacala ??? (Spanish for sick, dirty, or gross)
No. Reminds me of grade school awkwardness and senior men. Not hawt
Ew. Hell no
THE WORST. stop using old spice. its for 12 year old boys
Nope. Not ever.
You can’t please all the people all the time
You’re damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t.
I quit the debating society years ago and stopped wearing deodorant in my late teens, at about the same time I stopped wearing underwear. I just didn’t feel the need anymore.
It isn’t a problem if you shower and practice good hygiene. And even then, I’d rather smell my partners BO than something artificial.
That being said, I’m a bougie motherfucker and I sometimes wear this. It’s absurdly expensive for what it is, but smells really nice and lasts a long time. It has ‘an appealing vetiver scent’. Whatever that is.
You do you
It doesn’t matter. Wear Old Spice if you like wearing Old Spice. Some women won’t like it, some will, and at least one will think this:
All I am gonna say is that every pedophile I ever knew wore classic Old Spice.
Wearing Old Spice probably isn’t a deal breaker, except maybe in the case above.
If you’re dating someone who really likes you but not your deodorant, hopefully she’ll bring it up. It’s not the easiest thing to do, but it’s doable. Swap smells or stop dating, pretty easy choice for most people.
Remember the friend who abstained from chiming in during the initial discussion?
He finally did.
